Using Art Based Therapy to Enhance Counseling

This presentation is for LSSPs who provide counseling services and want to enhance the therapeutic process by introducing artmaking into sessions. Before they can safely and effectively work with students in this manner, LSSPs need to understand developmental and ethical facts about the therapeutic use of art. Attendees of this presentation will be able to identify:

1. how the brain is affected by verbal vs. experiential therapy
2. developmental graphic characteristics of and appropriate materials for use with elementary, middle, and high school students
3. ethical considerations surrounding the therapeutic art process and resulting art products
